Multi-Sensory Learning

Engaging Every Pathway to the Brain

Multi-sensory instruction is a powerful, research-backed teaching method that engages all the senses to help students learn more effectively. By activating multiple pathways in the brain, this approach makes learning more accessible — especially for students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.

This method is often known as VAKT instruction, which stands for:

  • VVisual: Seeing words, letters, or images
  • AAuditory: Hearing sounds, phonics, and spoken language
  • KKinesthetic: Using body movement to support learning
  • TTactile: Touching and physically interacting with materials

When these elements are combined in a structured way, students are better able to understand, retain, and apply what they’re learning — building both skill and confidence along the way.
